We live in a society filled with worry, fear, and uneasiness. We’ve been taught to stop trusting and to start putting up barriers around ourselves for protection from the unknown. Just like we discussed a few weeks ago about the power of your thoughts, this week we are going to go a little deeper and narrow down a specific way of thinking: why worrying just isn’t worth it (ever).

Just as we know how important it is to be mindful of your thoughts, it is just as important to keep those thoughts on a positive track. Whenever I teach my weekly meditation yoga class, I like to relate the mind and meditation to working out your muscles at a gym. Just like you do repetitions of weights to strengthen your arms, legs, and core, we meditate and consciously choose positive thoughts to “strengthen” the mind. With this being said, it is so easy for us to fall into the low vibe mindset of worry and unease. It’s what we’re accustomed to doing, so most of the time it just feels right. I ask you this one question and then we will move on to juicy tips of letting go of worry. In distressful situations, how many times has your worried mind helped you through? I’m going to guess that many of you will say very little, because it’s true. A mind at unease will do you no good when in any kind of uncomfortable situation. While it is sometimes necessary to be aware and conscious of a situation at hand, fretting about the unknown can take you to a low mental place. What can you do when your mind starts racing and the worry sets in? See below for a calmer, more peaceful frame of mind.

  1. Don’t worry; be happy. If you’re feeling unsure or stressed about something going on in your life, take a step back and contemplate all that is going right for you at this moment. No matter what, there is a silver lining.
  2. Be proactive and initiate action. Small, meaningful actions can help ease along any situation. If you feel like you must do something, do it, but make sure it is in alignment with your highest self.
  3. Let go of what you don’t know. None of us can predict the future or know how things will work out. Why try? Try to thrive in this moment, settle into that positive mindset that will launch you into a life of very little worry.
  4. Have faith. Start getting into the mindset that things do work out for you. Even if in the moment you feel totally lost and bewildered, start bringing your mind back to the place of knowing that the universe has your back, supporting you throughout your life.
